Bartolome & Briones is present in Latin America since 1997 when we opened our first representative office in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Later we opened our second representative office in Miami, Florida, to assist our clients in their bussinesses in the region, and establishing a great relation of knowledge, experience and exchange of lawyers with local law firms in the main Latin America jurisdictions.

Bartolome & Briones, S.L.P has been consolidating its special relationship with law firms in the continent so that it is absolutely prepared to advice customers doing business in Latin America, quickly and efficiently. The services provided by Bartolome & Briones distinguish our personal presence in the region, accompanying the client, either in different issues faced by local authorities, or in case of special negotiations and contracts´ instruments requiring legal advice.

Nevertheless, the particular situation of Spain brings an increasing number of clients from Latin America investing in the interesting Spanish market and, through it, into the European Union.

The Mexican desk is headed by Francisco Cortina, a Mexican lawyer whose 30 years of experience as a partner in one of the most renowned law firms in Mexico provided him with a deep and extensive knowledge of the legal and corporate arena.

Francisco’s dual nationality along with his family, social and cultural roots after living for long periods in Spain and Mexico have given him a deep understanding of both worlds. Hence, he is focused on simplifying trade and investment issues between the two countries by providing support to our clients in areas such as Tax, Migration, Real Estate, Banking and, of course, Commercial Law.

His strong ties with an important number of law firms, government institutions, and trade representatives both in Mexico and Spain bring advantages to the clients when dealing with intercontinental trade.

The flow of bilateral investment has become quite significant; Mexico is Spain’s main trade partner in Latin America and is in turn the country of this subcontinent with the highest foreign direct investment in Spain. Furthermore, over the last few years Spain has become a prime destination for the movement of capital, for trade and even for migration for many Mexican families.

In terms of the Mexican market, its 120 million consumers represent a great opportunity for both Spanish exports and the opening of subsidiaries, which would mean access not only to skilled and competitive manpower but also to the advantage of over 12 free trade agreements that Mexico has signed with a number of countries such as the USA and Canada, Central and South America, Japan, Israel and Europe (EU-EFTA), as with member countries of the Trans-Pacific Partnership Agreement, (CPTPP) such as Malaysia, Vietnam, Singapore, Australia and New Zealand, among others.

Thus, through Bartolomé & Briones’ Mexican Desk we advise corporate and individual Mexican and Spanish clients on their business and personal issues in both countries.
